The personal health benefits of drinking green tea kombucha are well-documented. But the wider benefits? Well, that’s where Counter Culture Drinks comes in. The B Corp and 1% for the Planet member is a ‘commercially compassionate’ brand angling to support two charity partners with the sale of their naturally fermented, low calorie kombucha sodas.

5% of every sale is split between Alcohol Change UK, the charity responsible for “Dry January,” and BillyChip, a charity turning financial donations into secure currency for people experiencing homelessness. (The poker-style chips can be exchanged for food and drink at partner retailers.)

Counter Culture is more than a brand name; the spirit of doing things differently goes to the heart of the business model. With a mission to raise £1 million for these causes, Counter Culture has embedded their charity partners into the success of the biz, making them majority stakeholders. That means, if founders Tom and Harry ever sold the company, the two charities would receive 51% of the proceeds – on top of the 5% regular donation they receive today.

Alongside “charity,” two other Cs drive Counter Culture’s purpose: climate and culture. They work with Planet Zero to calculate, offset and reduce their emissions and are operationally carbon neutral. through operational updates. As for “culture,” they believe in working with their local community and that art can be a vehicle for societal change too. Enter: Bristol-based graphic designer Marta Zubieta, who lends her psychedelic, neon illustrations to Counter Culture Drinks’ vivid label artwork.

Pick up a frame-worthy can or two and enjoy bold flavours from Rhubarb + Hibiscus to Grapefruit + Hops.
