The Urban Rhino Gin story started with a trip to South Africa for John Heeds and Mike Hall, who left inspired to support rhino conservation via great gin.
This commitment deepened even further when Pete Richardson acquired the brand they started. Pete co-founded the world’s first rhino orphanage in South Africa, when the rhino poaching crisis hit the headlines back in 2012.
His path took a turn towards the gin trade when he met Belinda Chaffer from the Waterberg Rhino UK and the owners of The White Rhino Gin Company. Together, they saw the potential of developing the brand and their organisations’ conservation efforts hand in hand.
Pete and his team kicked things off with a rebrand and new bottle design. They also modified the recipe, leading to it winning a gold medal at the Global Spirits Masters.
