Amahoro Deep Woven Tray
A beautifully crafted woven tray that will bring joy to your home.
‘Amahora’ means peace in Kinyarwanda – the local language of Rwanda where these gorgeous bowls have been expertly hand-woven. And as survivors of the Rwandan genocide, the craft group that makes the baskets know personally how incredibly important peace is.
With its deep edging and flat bottom, this tray would be equally happy as a hard-working fruit bowl, decorative tray or a beautiful wall hanging – each one is unique.
We can’t get enough of these amazing woven woven trays from Rwanda.
Use them as a centrepiece on your kitchen table, hang them up as a beautiful and unusual wall decoration, or store treasured knick-knacks or children’s toys in them.
Made from sustainable and natural sisal, these highly versatile baskets are unique, beautiful and hard-wearing.
They make fabulous gifts for your loved ones or some nice treats for yourself.

User Guidance
To enjoy your basket for many years to come, please ensure you:
- Wipe them with a slightly damp cloth to clean them.
- Don’t machine wash (this would ruin your basket’s shape).
- Don’t leave in direct sunlight (this preserves the beautiful colours for longer).
About our weavers and Comfort International
Our craft group is made up of 12 widowed or orphaned ladies who lost their families during the Rwandan genocide in 1994.
After the genocide, they arrived in Kigali, where life continued to be a challenge for them. They were all deeply traumatised and struggled to make ends meet. , with little hope to live. But they had to eat, they had to get somewhere to live, and some had children they needed to provide for.
In 1996, the group started with only two ladies who started earning a living with their beautiful handicrafts. Since then, they met and trained other women with similar life stories and included them in their group.
They started selling their products locally in Rwanda until they met Callum Henderson from Comfort International, who was able to share their products outside of Rwanda.
Each of the ladies has special skills, which means they can produce something completely unique. Their lives have totally changed. Through their craft, some were able to buy homes and pay their children’s school fees.
They’re now one of the most successful projects supporting widows and orphans in Kigali.

Karakorum introduces you to artisans of the world and the beautiful stories behind their products. This ethical home decor brand is a joyous celebration of traditional crafts, small business and fair trade practices.
Karakorum is named after the former capital of the Moghul Empire, one of the most important cities on the Silk Road, despite its small size. Likewise, the brand is a small-but-mighty route for trade from around the world.
A scroll through the Karakorum collection is like looking into the shop window of global artisans. Find candles crafted in Eswatini alongside Indian throws, Moroccan lanterns and Guatemalan sugar skull mugs.
All Karakorum products have a special story and significance. Even more importantly, everything in the range is ethically made and sourced. That means the makers get a fair wage, there’s no exploitation in the supply chain, women are treated equally and the local community benefits from Karakorum’s trade.
Whether you’re after a memorable, meaningful gift or a piece you can show off in your own home with pride – the Karakorum collection is the place to find it.
