COCO Chocolatier
COCO Chocolatier is where creativity meets conscious craftsmanship in chocolate. Founded in Edinburgh, Scotland in 2010, the chocolate truffles, bars, drinking chocolate and other sweet treats are made at origin in Colombia – upholding the country’s rich cacao heritage. Turning industry norms on their head (like sister brands and fellow B Corps UP-UP and OTHERLY), this means COCO ensures that more wealth remains in cacao-growing communities.
The chocolatier is as committed to farmers' welfare as wealth. They ensure there's no child labour or modern slavery in their supply chain. They work closely with their Colombian cacao partners, not just visiting them regularly (another industry novelty), but educating on how to maximise their yield.
Inspired by Bogotá’s vibrant street art, bold designs wrap these ethical chocolates. COCO Chocolatier serves as a canvas and platform for both artists and artisans, working with independent creatives from the UK, France, the USA, Mexico and beyond. There’s also collaborations with the likes of London galleries TATE and Wallace Collection, fashion designer Temperley London, Wallpaper* magazine and movie Poor Things. Each collaboration is a unique, artistic exchange – creatives enjoy the freedom to create miniature masterpieces that complement the chocolate’s flavour.
And what imaginative flavours. Choose from mocha or rhubarb & ginger chocolate bars to raspberry and orange truffles. Whether indulging in a special chocolate bar or looking for a thoughtful and beautifully unique gift, the artistry of these chocolates proves aesthetics and ethics can go hand-in-hand.
Calum Haggerty never expected to find himself in the chocolate business. Before taking over COCO Chocolatier in 2013, he worked for the Edinburgh Fire Service. However, COCO gave him the opportunity to unite his two passions: business and art & design.
Calum believes that to add real value, you must create something meaningful. He set out to make the artwork on each product as important as the ethical chocolate inside, becoming a supporter of the arts as much as an advocate of impact trade.
He’s since gone on to found two more purpose-led choccy brands, UP-UP Chocolate and OTHERLY.
